The castle dates back to the 14th century, but much of its current form originates from the 18th century. In the 15th century, the castle was owned by the Château de Bottens noble family, but by the early 19th century, they had become impoverished, and the castle passed to the Blanchard family.
Under the Blanchard family, the castle was modernised and had several alterations made to it. The original tower was demolished in 1840, and an extensive renovation and building programme was undertaken in the years that followed.
In the early 20th century, the Blanchard family was made bankrupt and they chose to sell the castle. It was purchased by Baron Louis-Charles de Mura, who had it renovated to its original look. In 1940, he was forced to sell again, this time to the Arthaud Couchepaille family.
Today
Today, the castle is owned by the descendants of the Arthaud Couchepaille family. It is open to the public, and hosts events such as weddings and traditional festivals. Its grounds are also open to the public, who can explore its gardens and the numerous sculptures and other works of art that are housed inside the castle.
