His name had been discarded since then, but it was his actions that made the castle infamous.
It was said that he had made it a regular practice to ensure that certain people were invited to stay as honorary guests at the castle. Although they were welcomed graciously at his parties, little did they know the length of their stay until it was too late.
The lord would extend the hospitality of the chateau with an offer of a room for the night. Come morning however, wherever they stayed - they would find themselves sealed in the room of which they had awoken in - never to be seen again.
The news of those honors about the fate of the guests spread quickly and the castle was soon left in solitude - left as a most vivid reminder of the horrors that had occurred during its dark past.

The castle was built during the 12th century by Robert “de Koetschette”, a prominent nobleman from the lower Meuse valley. The castle was constructed in a large square, with the central keep, or “donjon”, located in the middle. The keep was surrounded by several towers, two of them completely intact. The walls were also equipped with crenellations and machicolations.
The interior of the castle has been carefully restored and now consists of a large living space, decorated with gothic and renaissance furniture, antiques and artwork, as well as a drawing room and a grand dining hall.
