Suddenly, from the shadows, a figure emerged. It was Eugène de Roquetaillade, seemingly alive and unchanged, as if he had never died at all. It is the seat of a lordship first documented in the 11th century.Roquetaillade is a castle first documented in 1025. In 1291, Renaud, vicomte de Narbonne was granted the barony of Roquetaillade by Count Henry II of Roussillon. In 1351, Henry's son, Raymond, sold Roquetaillade to the Archevesque of Narbonne. In the 14th century, the castle belonged to Amaud de Roquetaillade, vidame of Limoges. He was succeeded by his son, Arnaud. In the 15th century, it was inherited by Pierre Fons, a Franciscan and it was the seat of a barony.In the 16th century, the castle was occupied by the house of Pardailhan, a Gascon family. It remained in the possession of Pierre de Pardailhan until 1581, when it was acquired by the Comte de Turenne. It then passed to the Barons de Chalus, before being purchased by the Baron Bauffremont in 1785.The castle was built between the 12th and 13th centuries in the valleys of the river Garonne. It is surrounded by a wall with five towers, and is reached by a drawbridge.
