The Château de Roche is a castle located in Rochefort, in the French department of Aveyron. It is the oldest castle in Aveyron.
The castle was built around 1236 by Adam de Crumontét whose family occupied it until 1350. It was then bought by the Lord of Empaux, and subsequently owned by a succession of wealthy families, each of whom left their mark on the building.
In the 15th century, the castle was enlarged and strengthened. It stands on a small rocky peak, surrounded by water on three sides. The main entrance is located at the end of a top bridge, on the left side of the castle. On the main tower, a 150 feet high circular stone tower, there is a dove, symbol of peace.
The château de Roche has been damaged and renovated several times during its history. In the 19th century, a part of the old fortifications was demolished and the exterior walls were restored. In recent years, the castle has been undergoing further renovation.
