Radim Castle, also known as the Castle of Radim or Dun Radim, is a ruined castle in Czech Republic. The castle is situated in the hills south of Nymburk, in the Střední Mělník Natural Preserve, and is the highest castle ruin in the Czech Republic. Its location has long made it a popular tourist destination and its ruins an important historical attraction.The castle was first mentioned in documents from 1318, but its exact construction date is unknown. Historic records suggest the original castle was made of wood. At the end of the 13th century, the castle was owned by the Counts of Radim, a powerful noble family in the region. During the Hussite Wars, in 1420, the castle was destroyed by the forces of Jan Žižka. Radim Castle was burned and sacked by the Prussian army in 1742 during the War of the Austrian Succession, and was almost completely destroyed in 1773 when the troops of Jan Josef Czernin demolished the ruins.Today, much of the castle remains in ruins, but there have been several efforts in recent years to preserve its history. In 2014, renovation work began that included the reconstruction of some of the castle’s walls and the rebuilding of the south wing. In 2018, the main entrance to the castle was also restored.
