The kingdom has employed high-tech surveillance techniques to become more alert about possible threats. The Saudi Arabian government has announced plans to use drone technology to help protect pilgrims during the annual hajj pilgrimage. According to Reuters, drones will be used to monitor crowds at the holy city of Mecca and other areas where large groups congregate.
Besides, Saudi security forces have surrounded significant airports and seaports with advanced scanners, allowing them to identify suspicious objects that may be carrying explosives. Apart from this, thousands of cameras are mounted on the ground as well as on helicopters flying over the mecca to keep an eagle eye on the holy site of Hajj.
The visuals of these cameras are directly sent to the operation centers for real-time analysis of the information. The entire preparation is done to ensure the complete safety of the pilgrims and to deal with emergencies quickly and efficiently. Apart from this, the Presidency of State Security stated that the level of coordination between the presidency and other security organizations has been raised with this improved technology that will make sure that this yearâs Hajj goes as smoothly as possible.
According to reports, Col. Khaled bin Abdullah Al-Mutairi, commander of participating RSAF group, informed the media about the state-of-the-art technology-equipped helicopters that will be used to supervise the air traffic at Hajj.
