Trinity United Church of Christ In USA: History,Facts, & Services

Trinity United Church of Christ is a historic African-American congregation. Located in Chicago, Illinois, the church has a membership of approximately 8,000 people. Founded in 1961 by Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright and Dr. Dorothy A. Brown, the church is rooted in and committed to the African American religious experience and tradition. Trinity United Church of Christ is devoted to fulfilling the highest commitment of ministry, providing a ministry of integration. They embrace their African American cultural and historical heritage and a variety of people that seek a contemporary expression of the traditional Black Church. The church is committed to sharing their rich history, message, spiritual practice and culture with their wider family of faith. Trinity United Church of Christ History Trinity United Church of Christ is the result of a merger between two local churches. In 1961, Pilgrim Baptist Church, founded in 1895, and Grove Avenue Christian Church, which began in 1921, joined together to form the Trinity Christian Church at Pentecost. In the late 1960s, the church was renamed to Trinity United Church of Christ. From its inception, Trinity UCC has consistently focused on integrating the principles of the Social Gospel into the life of the church. Trinity United Church of Christ Facts • The church currently has 8,000 members. • The church is led by Reverend Dr. Otis Moss III. • It is the largest African American congregation in the United States, and one of the top ten largest churches in the world. • The church has 43 ministries, dedicated to addressing the needs of the Chicago community. Trinity United Church of Christ Services Trinity United Church of Christ offers a variety of services to its members and the larger community. These include worship services, Bible study, Sunday school, counseling services, leadership programming and community outreach programs. The church also provides outreach to youth and young adults, daycare and after school care services, and a food pantry. The church also advocates for justice and social equity in their wider community by participating in advocacy efforts, working with other organizations, and offering programs to promote racial reconciliation and peace.
