History:

The Pyramid of Amenemhat I (ca. 1991-1962 BCE) was built in the 21st Dynasty of Ancient Egypt. It is located at Lisht, the necropolis of the capital of the 12th Dynasty, and was probably created as the king's tomb. Amenemhat I was the first king of that dynasty, and his ancestors founded the 12th Dynasty, descending from the 11th Dynasty state of el-Lisht. The pyramid was built in the typical style of the Middle Kingdom, with a central core surrounded by a stepped enclosure wall. Its height is likely to have been around 65 meters. Inside was a mortuary chapel, and a burial chamber, where Archeologists have identified the remains of Amenemhat I. The Pyramid also contains wall inscriptions containing his royal titles, the names of gods, and excerpts from a funerary hymn written for his ascension. It also features a series of chapel rooms, which are decorated with scenes of offerings and lists of goods dedicated to his legacy. The Pyramid of Amenemhat I is an important landmark in the history of ancient Egypt and the history of its architecture. Its structure and style represent a turning point in Egyptian funerary architecture, which evolved to accommodate more elaborate tombs. Its stepped enclosure wall style became the dominant model for other tombs in the Middle Kingdom. Visit one of the famous monuments of Egypt with your friends and family.
