The Pereslavl-Zalessky Historical, Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve is an open-air museum located in the city of Pereslavl-Zalessky, Yaroslavl Oblast in Central Russia. Founded in 1932, the museum-reserve contains over 350 monuments and buildings that represent the architecture and culture of the region during the 11th to 19th centuries. It is one of the largest outdoor museum-reserves in Russia and serves as an important cultural and educational center. Historical monuments, architecture and art from both the Great Russian and Foreign Sources are presented on the museum grounds. The museum building is a replica of the Transfiguration Cathedral which was destroyed in 1934. As visitors explore the museum grounds, many ancient works of painting, woodcarving, and other craftsmanship can be seen. Traditional festivals and concerts are held on the museum grounds and the library contains valuable archives and documents related to the history and culture of the region. The museum-reserve works hard to conserve important sites and monuments and to increase public awareness of the local environment and history. Self guided tours are available and lectures and presentations are also available. Guided exhibits and educational activities are also held throughout the year.
