City Presbyterian Church In Zimbabwe: History,Facts, & Services

History:

dates back to the turn of the century and is one of the oldest Presbyterian churches in the country. The church was founded back in 1908 by Reverend Ernest Bauman, an American missionary coming from Kentucky to serve the area. The original services were held in the Wesleyan mission station at Kwekwe (then called Que Que) by the Reverend and Mrs. Bauman. The Bauman’s worked tirelessly to spread the gospel among the many tribes and clans, as well as the religious groups that had settled in the district. As the congregation grew, they were able to move to their own mission building at another location in the city. In 1889, the church officially became a part of the Zimbabwe Presbyterian Church. Over the years the church underwent several renovations and expansions, and by 1994 it was the largest Presbyterian church in Zimbabwe. Today the church is a vibrant, welcoming and friendly church that welcomes visitors from all over the world. It serves the various congregations of both the Zimbabwe and Zambia Presbyterian Church, as well as an international and expatriate community. The church's philosophy is that it should be a "light unto nations" and a place where people of all faiths can find a sense of belonging. It strives to create a platform for thought and discussion, as well as being a safe and vibrant community in which to grow spiritually. It is one of the best churches in Zimbabwe which you must visit.
