Bhimakali Temple in Darjeeling has its own style of worship practiced by its devotees. The temple itself is dedicated to the Goddess Bhimakali. Firstly, the devotees perform abhishekam (a ritual of pouring milk and water over the idol) to the idol of Ma Bhimakali and offer flowers, fruits, incense sticks, bells and diyas. Then, a prasad is offered to Ma Bhimakali and the devotees pray to her for blessings. Palm leaves are then taken and are waved in front of the idol. Then aarti (a ritual of ringing bells and blowing conch shells) is done to please Ma Bhimakali. Lastly, the devotees break coconuts in front of the idol as an offering.
