History:

Ham Rong Mountain (also known as “Dragon Jaw Mountain”) is the iconic centerpiece of the Sapa tourism area in the Lao Cai Province of Vietnam. Located just a short distance from the town of Sapa, this lush, green mountain rises up out of the earth and offers an incredible view of the surrounding countryside. Though Ham Rong Mountain itself is not the highest peak in the area, its unique features make it stand out from the rest. A series of “spikes” protrude up along the vertical side of the mountain, these spikes resemble the jaw of a dragon and have earned it its nickname. The French called the mountain Pic de La Croix or “Peak of the Cross” for its resemblance to a Christian cross.
