History:

Dak Lak Province in Vietnam has a rich history which is reflected in its museum, the Dak Lak Museum. Founded in 1979, the museum formally opened in 1985 and is the oldest and largest provincial museum in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. It is located in Buon Ma Thuot City and has five branches located throughout Dak Lak Province. The museum houses many interesting and unique artifacts from the history of the ethnography, culture, and arts of the ethnic groups of the Central Highlands region. Visitors can see archaeological artifacts unearthed from the ancient Funan civilization, the Bahnar and Sedang ethnic minority cultures, as well as the unique religious masterpieces from the Christian and Hindu-Buddhist religious cultures. There is also a section devoted to the history of the area’s communist party leadership. The museum’s collection of over 5000 historical items also includes pre-historic tools and weapons, implements and ornaments from the pre-colonial period, and lacquer paintings of the post-revolutionary period. The exhibits are complemented by an extensive library, information corner and audio-visual complex. The museum is open from 8am to 4pm on weekdays and 10am to 4pm on weekends and holidays.
