When Cardinal Ludovico Ludovisi purchased the church, he had it renovated and consecrated it by Pope Paul V on the 19th of July 1615. The chapel was dedicated to the Virgin Mary as the Annunciation, which is why it was named the Church of the Beatiisima Annunciata.
