The church was originally built in the 16th century and was first owned by the Traversari family who sold it to the Holy See in 1603. When Cardinal Ludovico Ludovisi purchased the church, he had it renovated and consecrated it by Pope Paul V on the 19th of July 1615. The chapel was dedicated to the Virgin Mary as the Annunciation, which is why it was named the Church of the Beatiisima Annunciata.
