World War II Memorial in Volgograd In Russia: History,Facts, & Services

The World War II Memorial in Volgograd is a memorial complex dedicated to the citizens of Volgograd and the whole Soviet Union who lost their lives during the Battle of Stalingrad. It was created in 1967 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the battle and consists of a number of monuments and parks. The main memorial is an 18-meter tall massive stele, made of red granite and adorned with the Soviet emblem, which is surrounded by a large alley of trees. It is also home to a monument of the Motherland Memorial, honoring the millions of people who died in the battle. Visitors can also find a number of Soviet era sculptures, a World War II Museum, and a complex of monuments dedicated to the heroes of the battle. The memorial complex is a popular destination for those wishing to remember and honor the sacrifices of the citizens of Volgograd during World War II.
