History:

The Colossi of Memnon are believed to have been part of a larger complex built by Amenhotep III to commemorate his reign and legacy. The complex likely included a temple and a small shrine for offerings. After the death of Amenhotep III, the complex fell into disrepair and was eventually destroyed.
