St Mary-le-Bow Church is an Anglican church located in the historic heart of the City of London. It is first recorded in 1130, although it is believed that there has been a church on this site since Saxon times. The current building dates from the 1670s, although it has been much altered over the years. It is most famous for its bell, "Great Peter", which traditionally marks the start of the Grand Sermon, an ancient Christian service which was performed for nearly 500 years until the late 19th century. History:

The church has a long and vibrant history. The first church on the site is believed to have been built by the Romans. During the Saxon period, a much larger church was erected, and it was here that the grand ceremony of the Grand Sermon, which was a religious event of great importance, began to be celebrated. Although the original building was destroyed by fire in 1087, the Grand Sermon continued to be held here until the 1790s.
