In 1975, the museum was officially recognized as a separate institution, and its focus shifted to include technology. What began as a handful of cars soon grew into a diverse and impressive selection of artifacts, some of which are still functional. The museum’s collection of cars alone is impressive. It houses a variety of classic models, from an 1899 French Peugeot to a 1962 Chrysler Newport. It also has a comprehensive selection of vintage airplanes, autos from the former Soviet Union, and a number of rarities, including a 1908 Stanley Steamer, the world’s first experimental automobile.
