The Sinan Pasha Mosque is an Ottoman imperial mosque located in Istanbul. Built in 1580 by master Ottoman architect Sinan Pasha, the mosque is constructed in the classical Ottoman style. Its iconic, castle-like structure features four minarets, two courtyards, and an impressive entrance that serves as a passageway through to the interior prayer hall. The mosque's interior is dominated by a large dome, supported by sixteen arched windows, and four additional half-domes on the four walls of the hall. Inside, prayer niches (mihrabs) are adorned with intricate stonework, and the walls are decorated with abstract designs and verses from the Qur'an. Along the length of the hall, an ornately tiled fountain is used for ablutions. Adjacent to the main prayer hall are two smaller halls, which are used for teaching purposes. Outside, the mosque is surrounded by an enclosed courtyard, with a large portico and fountain. To the right of the courtyard is a series of arches and small domes, which lead towards the intricate mausoleum that houses the tomb of Sinan Pasha. The mausoleum is decorated with traditional Turkish tile work, and also contains ottoman-style paneling and mosaic designs.
