Sanspareil Rock Garden is located in Franconian Switzerland in Germany. It was founded in 1835 by a Bavarian forester and collector, J.S. Rehder. Rehder created the rock garden as a place for collecting and displaying plants from around the world in an alpine environment. He also constructed a pavilion and small cottage for visitors to enjoy. In 1874, Max Rehder inherited the garden and expanded the collection of plants, adding rare and unusual varieties, as well as introducing a wildflower meadow.
