The first mention of the parish in the historical record dates back to the year 1545 when the Franciscan order established a hermitage dedicated to the Holy Family. In 1720, a new church was built on the site and administered by the Jesuits. This structure was destroyed in 1833 during the First Carlist War. The current parish church was built between 1895 and 1896. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Mexico.
