The Kılıç Ali Pasha Mosque is one of the most prominent Ottoman-era mosques in Istanbul, Turkey. It was designed by the renowned Ottoman imperial architect Mimar Sinan. The mosque is located in the Golden Horn (Rumelihisarı), an inlet of the Bosphorus, in the Eminönü district. The mosque is a typical 16th-century Ottoman construction, consisting of a single domed room covered by a roof with four semi-domes. The main dome is 34 meters (111 feet) in diameter, with a total height of 67 meters (220 feet), and is supported by four large pillars. The interior is richly decorated with painted works of art, panels with arabesque figures, and wall tiles. The mosque is also noted for its large inner courtyard, which comprises an open atrium surrounded by a cloister of porticoes. This courtyard is an important part of the mosque's structure. The large marble fountain in the center of the courtyard was added in 1571 by Kılıç Ali Pasha himself, and is decorated with the Pasha's seal. The other sections of the courtyard are lined with arches and columns, decorated with stone carvings and stucco work. The mosque is further adorned by two tall minarets on either side of the dome. These are decorated with marble and carved stonework. The exterior walls are decorated with graphical tiles and stonework. The Kılıç Ali Pasha Mosque is open to visitors throughout the week. However, due to the high volume of visitors, visiting hours are limited to certain times.
