Overview:
is a scenic and cultural heritage protection area out of the core area of the Wuzhishan National Geopark in Hainan Province, China. It is made up of two villages, namely DongFang and Binglanggu. The area holds an important history and culture of the DongFang Li and Miao ethnic groups, as it has been a key defense position for them since the 15th century. It is also a favored place of the Li and Miao people to practice their traditional cultures and customs such as singing, dances, festivals, and so on. As a well-protected area, it is home to many nature reserves and scenic spots, and also a popular tourist attraction. It is one of the most beautiful monuments in China

History:
Hainan Dongfang Binglanggu Li & Miao Cultural Heritage Park is located in Mt. Jianfengling National Nature Reserve, 260 km to the east of Hainan Island, and occupies an area of 500,000 square kilometers. It is China’s only Li ethnicity and Miao ethnicity nature reserve, and is the largest nature reserve from the Miao ethnicity in the world. This park was established in 2011 to protect traditional values and cultural heritage of Li and Miao ethnicities in Hainan. It is also designed to help the local Li and Muo communities to preserve and develop their traditional culture and villagers’ lifestyles. The park includes thirty-two villages as well as eighteen Li & Miao cultural relic sites, including the 200-year-old “Fish Village”, and a 1,300-year-old copper fish. Tourism began to develop in the park in 2013 with the launch of the “Oriental Movies and Arts Festival” which was held at the Fish Village. A variety of local custom activities and performances were also held during this festival, and it attracted tourists from all over the country. Dongfang Binglanggu Li & Miao Cultural Heritage Park was also included as a part of the 39th World Heritage Convention held in 2015. Since then, the park has become one of the most recognized heritage places in the country. As of 2020, the Cultural Heritage Park is home to 599 Li, Miao, and Hui communities, and has been included in the National AAAAA Tourist Attractions list. Tour activities including ethnic cultural experience tours, photography tours, handicraft experience tours, and agricultural sightseeing tours are organized to promote the preservation of the traditional Li and Miao culture. This park is also responsible for organizing a range of festivals, tourist activities, and performance programs which aim to showcase the unique culture and art of the Li and Miao people.
