The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America is a distinction of the Orthodox Church in America and is headed by His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America. It was founded in 1922 and is comprised of over 500 parishes nationwide. The Archdiocese is committed to proclaiming the Gospel of Christ and educating the faithful in the Orthodox Christian faith, in order to promote communion of the Church and to support and strengthen the preservation of our Hellenic heritage and culture.

The Greek Orthodox Church in America was founded in 1921 by Archbishop Alexander (Demoglou) of Rodostolon, who was representative of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. The organization was given the authority to found the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America in the same year in order to serve the spiritual, educational, and cultural needs of the large Greek American immigrant community. The Archdiocese was officially recognized as an autonomous body in 1922. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in USA.
