History:

Givskud Zoo is a zoo in Givskud, Denmark, opened in 1969. It was founded by the then Danish Prime Minister Jens Otto Krag and his wife Inger and was the first safari park in Denmark to be opened to the public. It currently covers a total area of 600 hectares and is home to over 2,500 exotic animals from around the world. Up until 2014, it was known as Lion Park. The park includes a replica Danish town from the Iron Age, a reptile house containing both African and tropical species, an elephant area, a savannah, a lake with both bird and amphibian life, small mammals from the Himalayas and much more. It also houses many endangered species, including the Przewalski's horse, Bactrian camel, red panda, snow leopard and Rothschild's giraffe. In 2018, the park opened its first roller coaster, the 'Eagle's Flight', which leads into an enclosure of free-flying birds. In 2019, Givskud Zoo opened its first 4D theater film, to offer visitors a deeper dive into animal life in the zoo. In 2020, Givskud Zoo launched its "Natural Walls" project, which aims to restore both the animal habitats and the environment of the zoo. This project intends to help improve biodiversity levels by planting a variety of indigenous plant species.
