History:
The Frankfurt Trade Fair (Frankfurter Messe) has a long and storied history that dates back to the late 12th Century. The first market of its kind was held in 1240, and soon expanded to include textile and crafts fairs. By the end of the 13th century, traders from all over Europe were coming to the city to take part in the bustling trade fair. Throughout the 1400's and 1500's, the Frankfurt Trade Fair maintained its popularity and expanded to include a number of new goods, such as sugar, spices, and cattle. In the 1600's, the fair gained international prominence and became an important trade hub for goods from around the world. It wasn't until 1798 that the Frankfurt fair was given an official name, when it was christened the “Frankfurter Messe”. The name stuck and the fair continues to trade under this name today. The modern iteration of the Frankfurt Trade Fair was created in 1910, when a “special exhibition” was organized to celebrate the city’s 900th anniversary. The event was so successful that it has become a regular feature, and has since gone on to become one of the world’s biggest and most successful trade fairs. Today, the Frankfurt Trade Fair plays host to over 7,000 exhibitors from all around the world. Everything from automotive to technology to fashion can be found there, making it a major platform for both buying and selling.
