Lago Albano – Castelgandolfo - Roma is a municipality located in the heart of the Lazio region, around 28 km southeast of Rome. It is encircled by three distinct natural elements: the volcanic crater lake of Lago Albano, the mountainous landscape of Monte Cavo, and the luscious parks and gardens of Castelgandolfo. The municipality is renowned for hosting the Pope’s summer residence, and it is also home to a number of ancient historical sites, including the Catacombs of Collegio Romano and the Roman House of the Herculaneum. Lago Albano – Castelgandolfo - Roma boasts a long and rich history. It was initially settled by the Volscian people around the 6th century BC, before becoming a Roman municipality during the Republic, and then a part of the Papal States in the 18th century. It has since become a regular destination for religious pilgrims, as well as a popular destination for walkers and nature lovers. Lago Albano – Castelgandolfo – Roma is accessible by both car and public transport. It is served by two airports: Rome’s Fiumicino and Ciampino. Local buses run regularly from both airports to the neighbouring towns of Frascati and Albano Laziale. Once in the area, visitors can explore by foot and by bicycle along the lakeside and within the Castelgandolfo park. Alternatively, ferries run between the towns of Castelgandolfo and Albano Dei Rotti.
