The Chapel of Our Lady & of St John Lateran is a historic chapel located in the city of Rome, Italy. It was established by Pope Innocent III in 1213 and is one of the four cardinal churches in the city. The chapel is home to the Vatican’s holiest relic, a fragment of the original wooden table on which Jesus celebrated the Last Supper. Inside the chapel is a spectacular altarpiece clustered around the shrine of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the relic of the Last Supper. The chapel also includes a crucifix, a few paintings and sculptures, and several tombs. The chapel is open to visitors, who come to admire its ornate architecture, beautiful artwork and holy relics. The chapel has been the traditional venue for the Iconium of the Lateran, an annual celebration of Easter held during Holy Week. Mass is celebrated in the chapel several times every day.
