The Cathedral of the Dormition in Vladimir is a large Eastern Orthodox church located in the ancient Russian city of Vladimir. Built in 1158 by Grand Prince Andrey Bogolyubsky, the cathedral is the most visited landmark in the city and one of the most impressive churches in the entire country. Its history is deeply intertwined with the history of Russia and the development of the cult of the Virgin Mary. History:

The Cathedral of the Dormition was founded in 1158 by Andrey Bogolyubsky, Grand Prince of Vladimir. It is believed that the site of the church was chosen due to its proximity to a healing spring and because it was in a place of great natural beauty. Construction began in 1160, and the church was completed in 1170. It is one of the few surviving examples of early Russian architecture. The cathedral was a part of the former palace complex of Andrey Bogolyubsky. After his death in 1175, his son Vsevolod III moved the palace to a new location and turned the old site into a monastery complex. The name of the church comes from the Feast of the Dormition, which is celebrated on August 15 each year in Eastern Orthodox churches and commemorates the Virgin Mary's passing into Heaven. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Russia.

The Cathedral of the Dormition is 58 meters long and 52 meters wide, making it one of the largest churches in Russia. It is constructed from white limestone and features three tiers of five domes. They are topped with 12 cupolas, each of which has a gold cross. Inside the church, visitors will find an elaborate iconostasis, a mosaic floor and a system of intricate arches.
Services:

The Cathedral of the Dormition is open for visitors every day from 8 AM to 8 PM and hosts regular Mass services. Special services are celebrated on Virgin Mary feast days in August, October and November. Visitors are welcome to take part in the services, listen to the choir and explore the cathedral on their own.This beautiful church in Russia has made a lot of significance in the past.
