The parish has been a center of religious, social, and cultural activities in the city since its founding in 1941. The first pastor of the parish was Father Pierre Diezmann. He was succeeded in 1947 by the future Cardinal Charles Phalempin, who served until his retirement in 1999. During his tenure, the parish was active in social justice issues, such as promoting peace and reconciliation in the aftermath of the civil war. The current pastor is Father Jean-Marie Zongo.
