The Church of the Immaculate Conception in Syria is a Roman Catholic church located in Damascus. It was built in 1714 and is the only Roman Catholic church in Damascus. Since the 16th century, the church has served as the headquarters of the Latin-rite (Catholic) Christians in the city as it is the only church in Damascus where the Latin-rite Mass is still celebrated. It is named after the Immaculate Conception, a Roman Catholic dogma which teaches that Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ, was conceived without original sin. The church is managed by a parish priest and serves an estimated 100 people, mainly expatriates from South Asia, Europe, and the Americas. The Church of the Immaculate Conception, along with other Churches and mosques in Damascus, is open to the public during periods of worship, including Sunday services at 12pm.
