History:

The Pyramid of Menkaure, also referred to as the Pyramid of Mycerinus, is the last of the three main Giza pyramids located in El Giza, Egypt. It was built by Pharaoh Menkaure of the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom of Ancient Egypt. The exact construction date of the pyramid is unknown, but it is believed to have been constructed around 2490 BCE, making it one of the oldest of the remaining Ancient Egyptian pyramids still standing. The pyramid is the smallest of the three major pyramids, at 66 meters in height and narrowly 103 meters wide. It is made of a mix of limestone and granite. The Pyramid of Menkaure consists of a small valley temple, a large inner and outer courtyard, six large galleries, a huge central burial chamber as well as a variety of internal chambers and storage areas. The entrance is located in the base of the pyramid, leading to a sloping passage and then to an antechamber and burial chamber. The Pyramid of Menkaure is best known for its structure, which is said to be the earliest example of an Egyptian pyramid with a six-step superstructure. This superstructure consists of six levels of reduced-sized blocks that decrease in size from the bottom up. This is the only known example of an early stepped pyramid, and it greatly influenced the design of the later pyramids of the Middle and New Kingdoms. The Pyramid of Menkaure is one of the most iconic and well-preserved monuments of Ancient Egypt, and it is still visited by tourists and archaeologists today. It may never have achieved the size and fame of its two neighbors, the Great Pyramid of Khufu and the Pyramid of Khafre, but the Pyramid of Menkaure remains an important and beautiful part of Egyptian history.
