Archaeologists believe Ibi was possibly overthrown and his successor had no interest in continuing its construction. Within the Pyramid of Ibi is a unique offering chamber that was made from mudbrick, wood, leather, and reed matting. It is circular in shape and measures 8.24m in diameter. The chamber likely held an offering table, food, and other offerings intended for Ibi’s afterlife. The pyramid itself is only 8.7m high and has a larger base than the nearby Pyramid of Djoser, making it the earliest known true pyramid. The stepped structure is covered with inscribed limestone blocks, although these are mostly covered with debris or missing completely.
