History:

The Moscow Manege (Московский Манеж) is a large historical building located in the center of Moscow, near Red Square and the Kremlin. It is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the city. The building was originally constructed as an enclosed riding hall, although today it is a cultural and event center. The Manege was commissioned in 1796 by Emperor Paul I and designed by the great Azov-Italian architect Giacomo Quarenghi. Construction began in 1817 and completed four years later. The building is made up of two sandstone-clad pavilions with glass galleries on the side and a large dome in the center. The purpose of the building was to serve the military as a place for cavalry to train and practice.
