St. Hugo's Church - Burullapitiya is a Catholic Church located in the village of Burullapitiya in Srilanka. It is one of the oldest churches in the country, having been established in 1873 by the Dutch Colonials. The Church is dedicated to Saint Hugo of Lombez, a French priest and founder of the Congregation of St. Vincent de Paul. It is one of the best churches in Srilanka which you must visit.

History:

 The Dutch colonials built the church in 1873 and it served as a significant place for the local community to meet and worship in the 19th century. In the year 1923 the church went under renovation and the interior of the church including the structure and the architecture was redone. During the civil war in Sri Lanka from 1983 to 2009, the church was badly damaged as it was used as a field hospital for many years by the Sri Lankan Security Forces. However, the church re-opened in 2012 after extensive repairs and renovations. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Srilanka.
