History:
St. Theresa’s Church- Thalawila is one of the oldest churches in Sri Lanka. It was built in 1845 and is near the city of Chilaw. The site of St. Theresa’s Church contains ancient remains from the Portuguese period, and it was initially used as a chapel when fishermen came to this place. It was erected into a church dedicated to St. Theresa of Avila in 1845. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Srilanka.
