St. Jude's Church Daluwakotuwa In Srilanka: History,Facts, & Services

St. Jude’s Church Daluwakotuwa is an 18th century Roman Catholic church located in the north-western coastal area of Sri Lanka, near the city of Negombo. It was built in the late 17th century by the Dutch East India Company. The Church is dedicated to St. Jude and is one of the oldest and most important churches in the region. It is one of the best churches in Srilanka which you must visit.

History:

 The beginning of this church dates back to around 1675 when the VOC (Dutch East India Company) took possession of the Negombo area. In 1677 the Negombo parish was established and a small chapel was built in the area with the capacity of about 16 people. The chapel was later extended to accommodate up to 400 people in 1684, including the priest and his assistants. Through the years the church has undergone multiple restorations and renovations, each time expanding it further to accommodate larger numbers of people. St. Jude’s Church Daluwakotuwa This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Srilanka.
