Sri Pathirakali Amman Temple is located in Periya Urani, Batticaloa in Sri Lanka. Worship at this temple follows a standard puja ritual in many Hindu temples. The rituals begin early in the morning with abhishekam (bathing the deity with holy water and various other fluids). After offering flowers and offerings to the deity and chanting of mantras, the priests then move onto performing aarthi (a ritual in which the offerings are waved to the deity). This is followed by either a homam (a fire ritual typically done for special occasions) or Alankaram (decorating the deity with jewellery and finery).
