is located in the Kaddapula Village, Kandy District, Sri Lanka. It is one of the oldest temples in Sri Lanka believed to have been built in the 13th century by the King Kirti Sri Rajasinghe. It is also known as Arulmigu Siththar Kovil, and is dedicated to the Hindu deity Sivan. The temple has four entrances, and its main feature is a twenty-five-foot tall gopuram (tower) that stands at its entrance. Worship Method:
The worship method at Sri Navanathar Siththar Sivan Temple, Kaddapula, Sri Lanka follows the tradition of siva worship according to the Sampradhaya Agama. This involves offering poojas (ritual prayers) to Lord Siva in the form of five Pancha Bhutha lingas, contemporary to the five elements- earth, water, fire, air and ether. According to ancient texts, the worship of these lingas result in prosperity, knowledge, power and material abundance. The basic worship method involves offering flowers, sacred threads, lamps, aromatic substances, sandal paste and other worship materials to the lingas. Offerings may also include chanting of hymns, aarti and Classical music performances. During special occasions such as Maha Shivaratri, tens of thousands of devotees assemble at the temple to offer poojas and participate in the celebration of Lord Shiva. It is also highly recommended that devotees offer poojas for the other deities associated with Lord Siva such as Parmeswari and Durga, who are worshipped along with the Lord Shiv Lingam. Special rituals are performed in times of temple festivals, such as Kumbabhishekam, Kalyanotsavam etc. Devotees also offer to Lord Shiva's sacred cow, Nandi.
