: Sri Koneshwari Maha Davi Temple, Colombo is an ancient Hindu temple located in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The temple is popularly known by Sri Lankan Hindu devotees as Kottu Koneswaram Kovil. It is believed to have been built more than two thousand years ago to honor the Hindu goddess Koneswari. According to legend, the temple was first constructed by a sage named Parasharthi during the time of Rama. Parasharthi is believed to have received divine blessings from Koneswari in the form of an eternal light that shines in the temple until this day. The temple was destroyed by Arab invaders in the 10th century. However, the temple was again rebuilt by Marava Raja, a Chola king. In the 18th century, the temple was further renovated by Kandyan kings. The original shrine is believed to have contained images of Hindu gods such as Lingam, Nataraja, Kachchapa, and Bhairava. Today, Sri Koneshwari Maha Davi Temple is an important pilgrimage site for Hindu devotees. The temple is consecrated to the worship of Koneswari and many devotees come to the temple for blessings.
