Worship Method:
At the Sri Gnanavairavar Perumal Temple, worshippers make offerings of flowers, fruits, and coconut water to the deity. Prayers are conducted according to the instructions of the Hindu priests. In addition to regular worship, devotees take part in various special poojas on auspicious days such as Aadi Kottai (71st day of the Tamil calendar), Ekadasi (11th day of a fortnight), tree-lightening festivals, Maha Shivrathri, and Pampa Kruthika (11th day of the Hindu lunar month). On some occasions, rituals such as abhishekam, Ganapathi homam, and Navagraha homam, are performed in the temple. Traditional music and bhajans are sung during the rituals. During festivals, the temple opens for extended hours and special poojas are conducted in the morning and evening. The deities are decorated with different garlands and other ornaments. There are two ways in which you can reach Thirunelveli. From Chennai or any other city within India, the best way to reach Thirunelveli is to take a train to Thirunelveli railway station. Alternatively, you can take a flight to Tuticorin Airport. From Tuticorin, you can take a cab to Thirunelveli. Once you reach Thirunelveli, you can take a bus or hire an auto or cab to reach Budur. From Colombo, you can take a bus or train to any nearby city such as Maho, Kurunegala or Anuradhapura. From there, you can then take a bus or hire a cab to reach Thirunelveli. The bus journey could take anywhere between 10-13 hours. Once you reach Thirunelveli, you can take a bus or hire an auto or cab to reach Budur.
