Christ Church - Mutwal In Sri Lanka is a Roman Catholic church located in Colombo, Sri Lanka. It was established in 1845 by the Collegiate Mission Society of London, England and was the first Anglican Church built in Sri Lanka. The Church was originally named “Church of the Good Shepherd” and was formally opened in 1848. It was later renamed Christ Church - Mutwal In Sri Lanka by Bishop James Chapman in 1858 due to its importance in the Mutwal area. It is one of the best churches in Srilanka which you must visit.

History:

Christ Church - Mutwal In Sri Lanka has a long and rich history of over 170 years. In the beginning, the Church was a garrison Church and held regular military services for the British soldiers stationed in Colombo. During World War I it held memorial services for soldiers killed in action. In the early 20th century, the Church started a Sunday School and a Girls’ Friendly Society. Its mission has been to serve the needs of both the soldiers and civilians, regardless of ability, background, or religion. In the 1950s, the Church began to serve the Mutwal area, providing a place of worship, outreach activities, and charitable works. It currently serves a large congregation from various faiths and backgrounds, comprised of both local and international communities. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Srilanka.
