The worship method of Chola period Sivan Temple included a variety of rituals such as guru pooja (worship of Guru), suprabhata seva (morning rituals) and palliarai seva (evening rituals), singanadi seva (arati or lamp offering), dheepa aradhanai (lamp offering to the deities), and abhisheka seva (ablution offerings). On Amavasi (new moon day) special poojas were done in the temple, such as Ganapati homam (fire ritual to Lord Ganesha) and sankalpam (prayers to the deities).
