Worship Method:

The worship method used at Thirukkovil Sithira Velayutha Swami Temple in Thambiluvil, Sri Lanka generally follows the standard Shaiva puja or worship rituals. Each ritual is performed with specific mantras and puja items to honour the presiding deity. Generally, the worship begins with a prayer offering to Lord Shiva in the form of a consecrated coconut, a puja lamp, and flower petals which are placed on the shrine of the deity. This is accompanied by chanting of mantras. The puja then proceeds to begin the ceremonial worshipping of the deity with offerings of sandalwood paste, flowers, incense, fruits and often also five coins. Offerings of prasadam or holy food (including items such as sugar-coated pappadams, mung beans and jaggery) are also made. The worship concludes with an arati of the presiding deity and aarti offering which is given to each of the devotees. Aarti is performed while ringing the bell and worshippers usually sing and pray to Lord Vishnu during the arati. After the arati, the devotees thank Lord Shiva for his blessings and leave.
