St. Francis Xavier’s Church - Kulamankal is a Roman Catholic church located in Kulamankal of Beruwala, Sri Lanka. It is dedicated to the patron saint of Sri Lanka, St. Francis Xavier. The church was founded in late 17th century by the Portuguese and it has witnessed many significant events in the history of the country. The churches building was restored in 1967 and updated facilities like electricity, water, and road access were developed. It is known that St. Francis Xavier visited this church in 1542. There are several artifacts in the church such as a chair associated with St. Francis Xavier and a replica of the original altar which were obtained by the Portuguese. The church also offers various services such as Sunday mass, confession, weddings, baptisms and funerals. Every year on December 3rd, a festival is held to commemorate St. Francis Xavier. During this day, large numbers of people from across the country come to the church and make offerings by lighting candles, singing hymns and parading a statue of St. Francis Xavier. The church is a popular pilgrimage site with tourists and is visited by many Catholics all year round.
