History:
St. Agatha's Church - Dickwela was constructed as part of the Catholic Mission to the region. It is said to have been built by a pious man appointed by the Dutch East India Company. It is believed to have served as a center of culture and soulful devotion for all Catholic inhabitants of the area. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Srilanka.

The Church has an ornamental façade and a two-story belfry, with the main bell found in the ceiling-space. The Church was restored in the late 19th century after being neglected for some time. The altar piece was also restored by the Dutch Living Walls Agency, who funded the restoration project.

The church offers regular Sunday Masses for the parishioners, and hosts a wide variety of other services, including religious vacations, parents' meetings and workshops for children.
