Worship Method:
Sri Veerapaththira Temple on the Velanai islands in the South of Sri Lanka follows the Shaiva rituals for worship. The devotees firstly visit the temple tank and take a bath before entering the temple. Inside the temple, devotees chant either manthras or devotional songs as they conduct the abhisheka, aradhana, and bhava seva. Then the devotees offer flowers, perform pradakshina (circumambulation of the deity), and archana (offering of lights and incense). The devotees perform aarthi (lamp offering) as part of their worship. At the end of the seva, devotees offer their prayers while offering fruits and sweets as offering to the deity. This is also followed by unjal seva (offering of worship by swinging a lit lamp). Finally, the devotees perform the prasadam seva (offering sacred food) to conclude the worship.
