Our Lady of Good Health Catholic Church In Srilanka: History,Facts, & Services

Our Lady of Good Health Catholic Church In Srilanka is a Roman Catholic church located in Wennappuwa, Puttalam district, Sri Lanka. It is dedicated to Our Lady of Good Health, the patron saint of Sri Lanka. This church is known for being the country's only pilgrim church devoted to the Virgin Mary. The history of the church dates back to 1748 when Dutch governor Willem Jacob van der Grafe built the church and dedicated it to Our Lady of Good Health. The original building of the church was later destroyed in 1805, during the British occupation of the island. However, thanks to the efforts and donations of many Sri Lankans and the local community, a new church was built in 1892. The distinct architecture of this new building, which consists of an arch at the entrance, two towers at either side, and a thatched roof, is a reflection of the traditional Sri Lankan style. Today, the church is a popular destination for pilgrims from all over the country who come to pay their respects and give thanks to the Virgin Mary. The church offers numerous services to its congregation including Mass, Confession, Anointing of the Sick, and other liturgical prayers. In addition, the church is also home to a community center and a kindergarten where members of the congregation can come together to celebrate religious festivities and join social activities.
