The worship method of Nainativu Nagapooshani Amman temple is quite elaborate. Worshippers offer prayers to the Goddess with incense, flowers and offerings of fruits, sweets and other edible items. Devotees also light camphor or ghee lamps before the Goddess while chanting mantras and offering coconut water. Traditional dances called 'Oyilattam' and 'Kovil Kandam' are performed in the temple courtyard every morning and evening respectively. Pilgrims also perform Thirukalyanam, a ritual wedding followed by other ceremonies such as Abhishekam and Kappu kattu. Priests also conduct regular pujas for health, wealth and prosperity throughout the day. Devotees also take a holy dip in the nearby five-tiered tank called 'Avil Kuda' before visiting the temple. There are regular ferry services available from the city of Mannar in the North. The trip takes about 45 minutes. You can book and pay for tickets online, or make arrangements at the ferry terminal in Mannar. The ferry will drop you off at the main wharf on Nainativu.
