The history of Chinese Church in Sri Lanka dates back to 17th century when Chinese immigrants first travelled to the country to work in cinnamon plantations in the north-east coast. Some of these workers brought with them their own religion and customs which included worship of their God, which was mainly Confucianism. The Chinese Church in Sri Lanka (CCSL) is a multi-ethnic, non-denominational Christian church established in 2003. Its main aim is to foster a sense of fellowship and unity among the Chinese communities living in Sri Lanka, as well as to provide spiritual support and an effective witness to the nation's non-Chinese population. The Chinese Church in Sri Lanka follows the Chinese "Three-One" theology, which follows the teachings of the three major religions in China - Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism - as unified into one Christian belief system. The church also includes worship services and provides spiritual counseling for those who seek it. The CCSL also serves the local Chinese community in many ways. It runs health education programs, organized block parties, restores old Chinese temples, and works to beautify the environment. It also provides volunteer services such as helping the poor and marginalized among society. In addition, the CCSL provides educational opportunities, including Sunday School for children and Bible Study sessions for adults. The church also holds a number of social events throughout the year, to allow members of the community to come together and celebrate their shared faith and culture.
